The scope of the retained weather record

This collection covers the retained 1950 through available 2026 NOAA snapshot, checked October 27, 2026. The newest year is partial and reporting can lag. Hail, wind, tornadoes and other hazards remain in one collection. Each record identifies county context, a nearby reported point, a reported point within the current municipal boundary or forecast-zone context. Those are different geographic relationships, not a history of storms striking every Peculiar roof.

Different geographic relationships

County context, reported begin points and forecast zones remain distinct.

What a recorded storm tells you

A reported place and time

A report can establish that hail or wind was observed at its recorded location and time. A report's point and distance are not a municipal boundary or a track over a property. Lack of a report at an address also does not prove that no weather reached it.

Data geography and lag

NOAA's Storm Events Database organizes records by event type, date and county. Current and recent records can lag or be revised. A search should keep the period and geography visible rather than treating a nearby result as a property-level damage finding.

How storm history helps a roof inspection

What changed after weather

If you noticed a change after a storm, the approximate date is useful information to share. We examine present covering, flashing and penetration conditions. Property history and event evidence help interpret those findings; the inspection alone does not date every mark.

Different roof failures

Wind can lift shingles and disturb fastening. Hail can damage the shingle mat. Water can also enter through an older failed detail during ordinary rain. Those are different mechanisms, which is why the roof still needs to be examined.

After a possible storm loss

Safety and exposure

Stay off the roof and keep clear of electrical and ceiling hazards. If water is entering, call and say so. The immediate goal is to limit exposure safely and determine permanent work.

Roofing work and coverage

Insurance coverage remains governed by the policy and cause of loss. Use the storm-damage service page for the roofing process and the insurance guide for deductible and payment questions.
